Wow, it has been forever since I visited the blog. Well, let's see, since I last blogged I have been on summer vacation. I cannot complain, it's been great, but I'm getting a bit depressed that school is about to start again. Nothing compares to having 24 hours a day to spend with your family, to do whatever you choose to do with them. So far this summer, my girls and I have gone skating, camping and hiking in the mountains, swimming, visiting relatives, and best of all, loafing around the house.
A part of me is looking forward to the structure the school year brings....everything is on a set schedule, even my evenings and weekends are planned carefully. However, a part of me just wants to be a stay at home mom. Maybe someday when the hubby becomes a millionaire.
Off Work Today...Time to Celebrate
Kudos to the committee that made this year's school calendar, the Monday after state testing is complete couldn't have been a better spot to place a weather day. The great part is, it's about 55 degrees outside and the sun and sky are picture perfect.
You would think that I am looking forward to getting out of the house enjoying the day, but I am inside waiting for my favorite show, Days. I'm hoping and praying that this week holds more excitement for the viewers. Usually, I am the most optimistic Days viewer, but Friday's show gave me nothing to go on. When my husband told me that the show "sucks" now, I couldn't help but agree based on Friday's show. However, I will give them some room to work their creative mojo and revive the show.
Monday is always like the first day of school, you always have to tread lightly up the front sidewalk, because you never know what awaits you on the other side of the double doors. Upon arrival at work, I was greeted in the parking lot by one of my former 2nd grade students and her grandmother. As I hurried up to the front door, grandma insisted on explaining to me that she had a nasty rash that wouldn't seem to clear up.
That's nice.
Being a special education teacher, I am never in short supply of excitement. Whenever I finish my college CAREER, I will write a book based on my students.
So, tomorrow we begin state testing, and my boss comes up with this "great" idea for us to motivate the students today. We'll adopt the theme "Going wild about the test". OK, I thought. This will be interesting. As I was standing behind the curtain on stage with my colleagues, all of which hold at least a Bachelor's degree, some with doctorates, I couldn't help but ask, "did anyone here ever think that you would be pretending to be a monkey in front of 300 kids when you were walking across the stage to get your degrees?" Silence.
After the "pep rally" there was complete anarchy. I retreated to my resource room, sans students, and shut the door. What a day to have to stay after for faculty meeting.
I can only hope that Tuesday wil give me a glimmer of something remotely normal.
Just checking to see if I can get the hang of this blog thing. I belong to a book club, and mine is the only literature response that is always missing.
I see that a few people from the message board are here, looking forward to posting with you guys and knowing more about all of my play cousins.
By the way, these smilies are pretty wacky.
